Gate, 1

I keep passing this gate on my walks with Boz and finally I caught it in the right light. I love that wisteria. I'm not crazy about the security company sign, but I guess when you have an entryway this pretty you have to protect it from people who just can't resist inviting themselves in.

  2. Oh good, a gate series. Wish I had a secret garden.

  3. My favorite kind, too, PA. And I don't know if this will be a series, Hiker, but I reserve the right.

  6. Bellis, I went looking. Bill?

    Virginia, I hope you're keeping a list.

  7. Bellis, we have a number of alternatives you can use. "I love fence doors," for example.

  8. Wisteria makes me wistful, for things I can no longer have, takes me to "purple haze." Is it behind that gate, just beyond my reach?

  11. Definitely worth waiting for the wonderful light and wisteria as this is a fabulous photo. I'd be very tempted to peek over that gate.

  12. The gate is set back from the sidewalk. Peeking over the gate would mean trespassing, which of course I wouldn't do. Not that I wouldn't want to, I'm just terrified of the consequences. A few people here are much braver than I am.

  13. You can get in a little peek with Google satellite view. It's amazing how much there is behind some houses that you'd never guess from the front.

  14. Beautiful entrance. And great that "the behind the gate" is kept as secret.

  15. "I want to go to there" as they say on 30 Rock.

And I agree about security signs, they ruin the mood to so many houses.

  16. Thanks for the suggestion, Bellis, but this one doesn't reveal anything. I think Irina's right, it maintains its charm that way.

K, I suppose the security signs keep some bad guys away--the ones who are sober enough to read, anyway.

  17. Lovely photo! You caught it in the right light. And the wisteria is beautiful over the arched gateway. It does make me want to go inside....

  18. This made me think of the album cover to Jackson Browne's For Everyman. But looking at the cover now after many, many years, I see only slight similarities: the archway, the angle, the Southern California vibe.

Funny how memory makes these vague associations.

  19. Ms. M, I've found a spot to plant wisteria at my house. I just have to remove a giant rosemary bush. (It's okay, I have two.)

Susan, I see the similarity. It may be just the vibe, but it's there.
