Yesterday I did what you're supposed to do on a Saturday: something fun, with friends.When you freelance, you tend to work 24/7. It's rare to do something just for fun. But yesterday was fun.
First we enjoyed a lecture about Pasadena's historic Busch Gardens (1904-1938), given by Michael Logan as a fundraiser for Pasadena Heritage. Later, as part of the event, we toured Busch Gardens sites in west Pasadena, some of which were on private property. I took lots of pictures (though not on private property, alas) and I'll share the best ones with you in the coming week.
Between lecture and tour, however, lunch on a beautiful terrace with my delightful friends was my favorite part of the day.
Well now I"m jealous. I wish I'd been having lunch with you again!

ReplyDeleteWhat's not to like about Pasadena? It has everything - good company, sunny weather, ancient history (bits of Busch Gardens hidden under ivy), and a real French food shop just across the border.

Bellis, being from Britain you're generous to call Pasadena's history ancient. And although we didn't study it yesterday there were the Tongva before there was Pasadena. I wonder what we'd find of theirs if we did the archaeology?

Mark, I didn't notice where the grapes came from! I don't think anybody cared...
Ms. M., I learned yesterday that Pasadena's Busch gardens were the first, and they are (or were, as they no longer exist) related to the St. Louis gardens. Adolphus Busch, of Anheuser-Busch fame, established the first gardens here. It was originally the 38-acre back yard of his beautiful mansion on Orange Grove Blvd.
Good for you. That glass of vino looks inviting and must have made a fine contribution to your fun -:)
