It's Jacaranda time in Pasadena.We've got a lot of blogs here in town. A lot of good ones. For keeping up with what's happening the best one is Hometown Pasadena, managed/operated/lovingly filled to the brim by editor and publisher Colleen Dunn Bates, who seemingly can do no wrong. Right now she's got a couple of pretty shots of the jacaranda trees along Del Mar Blvd.
Then again, what hasn't she got? It's a mind-bogglingly fabulous website that functions like a blog, or about a hundred blogs. I don't know how she does it, but she does it so well.
Ahh, that's the kind of litter on the ground that I like.
ReplyDeleteMe too, Dina! I didn't realise you had jacarandas there, Petrea. They're a distinctive part of our landscape. We tend to associate them with final senior school exams for the year, as that's around the time they usually bloom here in Brisbane.

Colleen! Good morning. I don't know where you get the time to come by. I breeze around Hometown Pasadena and hardly know where to start! I hope you get time to attend some of the events you cover. I'm going to try to hit Vroman's tonight for the Alice Hoffman event, which I know about thanks to you.

ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful thing I miss about Pasadena! UCLA also has lots of huge Jacarandas, and is a great place to have a picnic lunch among the trees!

I had Hometown Pasadena on my blogroll almost from day one (well, as soon as I learned of it, anyway!). It's such a welcome addition to our eclectic Pasadena area blogosphere.

How have I never seen jacaranda trees before? They're so lovely! It's almost Seussian how purple and fluffy they look, lining the streets and littering the ground with their colorful petals!

ReplyDeleteMe too, Ann. I always tell the story of the first edition of Hometown Pasadena, the book. J & I were delighted to open our gifts that Christmas morning. We had each bought the other a copy. We didn't return one. We kept them both.

Ms M, they have a fragrance. To me it's kind of a sickly smell. A lot of people don't notice it, though, because it's mild.
your picture tells the untold story of those trees -- while although they are very beautiful they make quite a mess. a blessing and a curse.
