Zen Monday: #50


Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what the photo's about.

As I post each new Zen Monday photo, I'll add a label to last week's to identify it if necessary (and if I know what it is).

Update 6/1/09: As Anonymous notes in the comments, this is a storage facility on Locust just west of Allen on the north side of the street.

    This photo reminds me of a friend from Chicago who moved to Durango. When Coloradans asked her, gloatingly, what she thought of the mountains, she'd say: "I don't like them; they block the view."

    i see deserted houses/buildings. Due to the crisis (can you tell i had a hard day?) everyone left while they still could.

    This photo reminds me so much of my philosophical studies, something that seems so promising when viewed from afar - but actually the closer you get, the more fake it is. Sometimes reality can be blocked by something that at first glance seems "prettier". When, in fact, reality is maybe a bit more gritty but so much more than expected.

    Clear as muc?

    When, after...years of use, the marble steps...become worn, they are not replaced or rebuilt, but covered for protection with plates of corrugated iron.

    It's very practical: You can see the painted mountains even when the smog obscures the real ones.

    Large Art...I like it... and where is the location?
    I'm reminded of the Paramount Mountain Painting, which obscured the RKO Studio globe between the properties...on the Western Street at Paramount..

    This photo reminds me that there's always simplicity to every hardship. The structures on the side seem serious but the painting and the mountains just remind you that everything is ok and that life is meant to be enjoyed and beautiful whether in a painting or in actuality.

    Wow, such varied takes on this one. I've really enjoyed the comments today. As per usual, I'll leave it a mystery for now and post the location when I post next week's Zen Monday shot. It's Pasadena, though, not Hollywood or Durango...

    I keep waiting for someone who works there to show up and talk about it. I was amazed when I saw it, it's right there in plain sight. Funny how running around with a camera makes you get out of the car and peek into places you drive right by all the time. Check back here next Monday and I will have updated the post with the location.

    My first thought was the economy has really hit us that so many shops, businesses are becoming vacant. Jobs being lost right and left, in spite of the beauty that lay all around...

    Ms. M., that tune is going to be in my head all day. That's a good thing. I often get songs stuck in there but it's usually the Archies or a commercial jingle.

    To me it seems to be a a business park or apt complex. Either way it would be a lovely scene to see everyday.

    It also reminds me of some Hollywood stage prop.

    Also reminds me of some of the vintage advertisements for produce. I feel like a woman will appear any moment bearing a bushel of peaches.

    I walk by that place every time I take the Gold Line, that's the storage facility at Union (or is it Locust?) and Allen, right?

    Not abandoned at all just rarely populated, like any storage facility.
