Zen Monday is the day you experience the photo and give us your thoughts rather than me telling you what the photo's about.
As I post each new Zen Monday photo, I'll add a label to last week's to identify it if necessary (and if I know what it is).
Update 6/1/09: As Anonymous notes in the comments, this is a storage facility on Locust just west of Allen on the north side of the street.
This photo reminds me of a friend from Chicago who moved to Durango. When Coloradans asked her, gloatingly, what she thought of the mountains, she'd say: "I don't like them; they block the view."
ReplyDeletei see deserted houses/buildings. Due to the crisis (can you tell i had a hard day?) everyone left while they still could.
ReplyDeleteThis photo reminds me so much of my philosophical studies, something that seems so promising when viewed from afar - but actually the closer you get, the more fake it is. Sometimes reality can be blocked by something that at first glance seems "prettier". When, in fact, reality is maybe a bit more gritty but so much more than expected.
ReplyDeleteClear as muc?
Hollywood has gone mad---even where there are mountains they are painting them in for appearances!
ReplyDeleteTruth is an illusion.
ReplyDeleteWhen, after...years of use, the marble steps...become worn, they are not replaced or rebuilt, but covered for protection with plates of corrugated iron.
ReplyDeleteGosh, how fun is this? I can't wait to find out where it is...
ReplyDeleteMethinks I seen a Coyote down that thar road … Meep-meep!—Signed, ACME Comments
ReplyDeleteIt's very practical: You can see the painted mountains even when the smog obscures the real ones.
ReplyDeleteJohn had the same idea I had! (meep meep!)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, P.
Large Art...I like it... and where is the location?
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of the Paramount Mountain Painting, which obscured the RKO Studio globe between the properties...on the Western Street at Paramount..
This is a mirage...
ReplyDeleteGosh I would so love to be in a place like this right now!
Come on Petrea, come and rescue me... take me to your Zen Monday place... please...
Road trip to the flat mountains!
ReplyDeletelooks like a hollywppd movie set. Check out my blog and tag on to it.
ReplyDeleteI want to know what's on the other side of the wall.... and appearantly everyone else did and went to check since there are no cars or people.
ReplyDeleteThis photo reminds me that there's always simplicity to every hardship. The structures on the side seem serious but the painting and the mountains just remind you that everything is ok and that life is meant to be enjoyed and beautiful whether in a painting or in actuality.
ReplyDeleteCeci n'est pas une montagne …
ReplyDeleteI needed something entertaining like this after reading the sad story on Laurie's blog. Sometimes the little things help just as much as the bigger things.
ReplyDeleteLincoln Ave business park, I reckon. . .
ReplyDeleteI feel like following the yellow brick road.
ReplyDeletemust be lunch-time at the OK Corral.

"first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is....")
Wow, such varied takes on this one. I've really enjoyed the comments today. As per usual, I'll leave it a mystery for now and post the location when I post next week's Zen Monday shot. It's Pasadena, though, not Hollywood or Durango...
ReplyDeleteThank you all! A warm welcome to the new commenters and followers. I hope you'll stick around.
Potemkin horizon? I'm really curious to know where this was.
ReplyDeleteI keep waiting for someone who works there to show up and talk about it. I was amazed when I saw it, it's right there in plain sight. Funny how running around with a camera makes you get out of the car and peek into places you drive right by all the time. Check back here next Monday and I will have updated the post with the location.
ReplyDeleteHow its possible mountain near the water near desert after that some plants.
ReplyDeleteIt might be came into your dream.
Ashok
Exquisite photo, Petrea.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was the economy has really hit us that so many shops, businesses are becoming vacant. Jobs being lost right and left, in spite of the beauty that lay all around...
ReplyDeleteFound you through blogs of note...
"We're on a road to nowhere
ReplyDeleteCome on inside
Takin' that ride to nowhere
We'll take that ride..."
-Talking Heads
Thank you, Cliff, I appreciate that.
ReplyDeleteHi Chef E, welcome! I'm glad you happened by.
Ms. M., that tune is going to be in my head all day. That's a good thing. I often get songs stuck in there but it's usually the Archies or a commercial jingle.
Haha that looks like a movie set! So fantastic. I agree it totally looks like an ACME sort of backdrop. Great pic!
ReplyDeleteTo me it seems to be a a business park or apt complex. Either way it would be a lovely scene to see everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt also reminds me of some Hollywood stage prop.
A blank canvas can be found anywhere...
ReplyDeleteAlso reminds me of some of the vintage advertisements for produce. I feel like a woman will appear any moment bearing a bushel of peaches.
Thank you for letting me comment :)
Kate G, you're welcome. Please come back and comment any time you like.
ReplyDeleteI walk by that place every time I take the Gold Line, that's the storage facility at Union (or is it Locust?) and Allen, right?
ReplyDeleteNot abandoned at all just rarely populated, like any storage facility.
You've got it, Anonymous. Locust just west of Allen, north side of the street.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, what an amazing view...
