Rules

With a little help from my friends, here are some rules I've been collecting.

1. The Claire Berger Rule.
You do the thing that bugs you the most.
This comes in handy when you're overwhelmed and you don't know where to start.

2. The 2001 Rule.
Especially when you think you're almost finished, slow down. Take another look. Make sure.
Named for Arthur C. Clarke's novel of Stanley Kubrik's 2001: A Space Odyssey, when the astronaut is working outside the ship and, as he nears completion of his task, he cautions himself to calm down, be methodical, and stick with the process. Otherwise PING! Lost in space.

3. The Bob Dylan Rule.
When somethin's not right, it's wrong.
(self-explanatory)

4. The David Byrne Rule.
People will remember you better if you always wear the same outfit.
From the liner notes for Stop Making Sense.
