Hahamongna Detail Week, 2

Boz doesn't always look up when we're at Hahamongna. He's got his nose on the ground, where the smells are. But if he did look up, he'd see hawks, owls, herons, and many other birds, including the endangered Least Bell's Vireo.

This week, Boz is giving you a tour of Hahamongna Watershed Park to show you some of his favorite details. I'll check in and respond to comments as much as possible. It shouldn't be too hard. I hope you're having a week full of wonders.

I love how Boz rolls!... Also love how this photo came out... I've taken a few where the lighting gave a vintage look to it... This mono look has a great aged effect. btw did that bird chirp at Boz? :-)

He did, but Hawks don't exactly chirp. It's an almost haunting cry.

Nice photo against an uncharacteristically cloudy sky. A female Cooper's hawk was flying around yesterday making a lot of noise, I think it's one of the couple that Dennis Callet photographed last week. They were - er - coupling, and I felt like a voyeur just looking at the photos. I think they're building a nest near where they reared two chicks last year.

Hawk is looking at Boz, thinking "Dinner! Nope, too big."

We have a hawk, at least one, who I see perched in neighborhood trees and on chimneys. I watched him a bit the other day, soaring around the houses. Trolling, really, looking for an unattended poodle or preoccupied cat.

@Petrea: My bad! Didn't notice it was a hawk.. I've had a few in my yard, in fact a baby one was eyeing my bird seed!. :-)

How Gothic!!! Too bad it's a Hawk and not a Raven!!!

I think I may have had a Least Bell's Vireo in my yard. I'm not a birder and I thought it was a titmouse. Could be I saw both.

What kind of tree is this?

Reminds me of the great children's book, "The Ghost Eye Tree."

I haven't had much opportunity to respond today, but thanks for your comments. PA, this is the dead, leaning tree that stands alongside the path on hahamongna's east side.

Ella is such a sniffer! If I ever took her outside for walkies {she's strictly an indoors kitty!} I wouldn't make it past the front driveway. She can relate to Boz's perspective.

There's a woman who walks her cat at Hahamongna, Shell, also a guy who walks his tortoise. They don't go very far in.

I couldn't tell it was a hawk until I enlarged it a couple of times. It's another fantastic photo. Such sharp detail. Nice job, Boz.
