If you click on Dave Knight in the blog labels below, you will notice something uncanny. Over the time I've known Dave--the Pie Nights we've seen and the real estate adventures we've shared--he and his wife have had two children. And he's gotten younger. How does he do that? Secret potions? Poison apples? No. I think perhaps it's the pie.
The other photo you get to take at Pie Night, if you're lucky, is of Pie Night Hostess Susan Savitt Schwartz. (Co-hosts Michael, Natalie Rose and Molly must have been stationed at various other points in the house at the time, apparently having fun instead of posing for me.)
Or not. It's all pie, after all.

ReplyDeleteIt is a great idea, LOL. The Schwartzes invite friends and neighbors to bring a homemade pie (store-bought pies are discouraged). The table is laden with cream pies, fruit pies, tarts, etc. Savory pies are on a separate, smaller table. Last night I was in the mood for savory and I enjoyed a Natchitoches fried beef turnover, if I remember the name correctly, made by one of the neighbors. A fine time, delightful folks, great food. Everyone should do this when fall comes around.

ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago, I went to a David Sedaris book signing at Vroman's, and met a woman who was one of the founding members of the PEN. I talked about it for days!! (In fact, the community benefits are nearly as far-reaching as those of Pie Night!)

ReplyDeleteThe alleged lemon is actually a pumpkin sitting on the deck railing outside. Not all the pumpkins we grow come out looking equally pumpkin like... but they all make mighty fine pie.
