Rules are rules. At Pie Night, which some people refer to (well, one person) as Pie Knight, you must have your traditional Dave Knight photo. What would I do if Dave didn't show up?
If you click on Dave Knight in the blog labels below, you will notice something uncanny. Over the time I've known Dave--the Pie Nights we've seen and the real estate adventures we've shared--he and his wife have had two children. And he's gotten younger. How does he do that? Secret potions? Poison apples? No. I think perhaps it's the pie.
The other photo you get to take at Pie Night, if you're lucky, is of Pie Night Hostess Susan Savitt Schwartz. (Co-hosts Michael, Natalie Rose and Molly must have been stationed at various other points in the house at the time, apparently having fun instead of posing for me.)
Pie Night is a Schwartz family tradition. This year everyone came on time and the place was packed. There were a few more savory pies, which is great because after all that sugar you need some balance.
Or not. It's all pie, after all.
To quote America's greatest thinker: "Mmmm … pie."
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of Susan. She's a great community worker; works hard, has a big heart. It's fine a thing to see her smiling so broadly.

ReplyDeleteDoes that adorable girl in the second photo have a giant lemon on her head? I'm beginning to think Pie Night is magic.
ReplyDeleteThat was George Washington, was it not, Dive...?
ReplyDeleteSusan S is a director of the Pasadena Education Network. They help match families to schools. She's super in so many ways! The pin she's wearing is a pie.

Susan C, I believe yes, the girl has a lemon on her head.
What a great idea. Everyone is having a super time, I can tell. So love your 'Knight' reference. Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great idea, LOL. The Schwartzes invite friends and neighbors to bring a homemade pie (store-bought pies are discouraged). The table is laden with cream pies, fruit pies, tarts, etc. Savory pies are on a separate, smaller table. Last night I was in the mood for savory and I enjoyed a Natchitoches fried beef turnover, if I remember the name correctly, made by one of the neighbors. A fine time, delightful folks, great food. Everyone should do this when fall comes around.
ReplyDeleteHaha!!! such a fun tradition!!!
ReplyDeletePie Knight? Hey, one of the photos could be entered in your Camelot Where You Are contest!
ReplyDeletePie Night/Knight. What an inspired idea. I may have to get involved in the implementation of one of those myself.
ReplyDeleteA couple of years ago, I went to a David Sedaris book signing at Vroman's, and met a woman who was one of the founding members of the PEN. I talked about it for days!! (In fact, the community benefits are nearly as far-reaching as those of Pie Night!)
wonderfull foto .. it gives the feeling being a member .. I love pies .. never haerd about a pi night .. yammy sounds good
ReplyDeleteMmmm, savory pie. My favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe night was just autumnal enough for it, too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun get-together. And who can pass up a piece of pie?
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you Petrea!!! I'm hoping the pie made your migraine go away :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true, Dave's getting younger every year. Is it the acai berry pie?
ReplyDeleteI make a great shepherd's pie. Can I get an invite for next year?
Savory pie might have done the trick, Dave. It's probably a good thing I avoided the sugar.
ReplyDeleteBellis, maybe I can bring you as my date.
I love this kind of traditions.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tradition!
ReplyDeleteThe alleged lemon is actually a pumpkin sitting on the deck railing outside. Not all the pumpkins we grow come out looking equally pumpkin like... but they all make mighty fine pie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for spreading the good word Petrea! I would have posed for you, but I always figure Dave does it best.
Dave has become somewhat a part of my traditional Pie Night photo, Natalie Rose, but there's room for everyone!
