Camelot Where You Are, #19

We return to the Camelot Where You Are photo contest (details below) with this entry from Ann Erdman:

"This is a knight in shining armor in my sister and brother-in-law's home in Bella Vista, Arkansas. I was inspired...to take a photo of the knight...with Lake Avalon in the background since Avalon plays such a strong role in the legend of King Arthur. The name of the lake is fitting because Avalon is where King Arthur's sword Excalibur was forged."

Thank you, Ann! (The lake and its mysterious island figure into many stories of Camelot, including mine).

Enter the Camelot Where You Are photo contest by sending in a picture of your interpretation of Camelot where you are.
It can be anything--a sign, a symbol, a plaything--whatever your imagination tells you.
It's easy to enter and anyone can do it.
Send in your photo, then be sure to vote over the coming weekend for your favorite of this week's entries.
Each weekly winner receives a free copy of my new novel, Camelot & Vine, upon publication in October.
Publication day, whatever day it turns out to be, will be the final day for entries.
Next week we'll take a short hiatus from posting contest entries to do a regular blog week,
host a guest author, and take care of business.

  1. How inspired of Ann to stage her knight in front of the lake! I've been very slack with your contest, Petrea ~ sorry. But I hope I've just about run out of time, because I want publication day to arrive!

  2. Me, too!
Arthur looks very gallant in today's photo, Petrea, but I can't help but wonder if that's not Lancelot and Guenevere disporting themselves across the lake behind him.

  3. A fitting background for a handsome knight and his steed.

  4. I want publication day to arrive, too! Can't stand the waiting. I'll make an announcement soon.

I love the word "disporting." I don't believe I've ever used it in a sentence before now. I must add it to my daily vocabulary.

  5. Oh my, Ann's beaten us all with this - it's perfect! She's earned herself a hand-tooled leather-bound edition of Camelot and Vine, nothing less.

  6. This one's a beauty! Love the lake as a backdrop, the lavish horse and knight details, the romantic quality of it all.

  7. Bellis! Now don't go offering things I can't do. I'll get PA involved, she's the one who can do the leather tooling.

  8. This would sure be a conversation piece to have at a lake party. Awesome entry!

  9. The word that comes to mind for this picture is "chivalry"--Chretien de Troyes, 12th century or perhaps later, Medieval.

  10. This knight is a perfect example of a "knight in shining armor". And the setting is beautiful.

  12. Ann, I'm still trying to take this in. Your sister and her husband own a lake and a beautiful knight in shining armor? Is it for their private enjoyment, or is the public allowed in?

  13. Margaret, you're for sure not going to win if you don't enter.

  16. Petrea, be sure to sign that special edition for me!

Bellis, their home is on Lake Avalon, which is a private lake for the homeowners who live along its banks. They pay for its upkeep through their property owners association. It's truly beautiful.

  17. A knight in shining armor in the middle of Arkansas. Who woulda thunk? Very cool, Ann.
