Camelot Where You Are, #15

Katie's entry is the House of Shields.

"Camelot needs an official cocktail lounge," says Katie, "so I suggest House of Shields in San Francisco, California. Although this bar is new by some standards (it dates from 1908), it's actually timeless as there are no clocks or TVs inside! Click on the gallery link at the website to see the beautiful vintage wooden bar, and the gorgeous original mosaic floor that would be right at home in any castle. I was here recently and noticed there was definitely a place for knights to leave their armor while having a drink!"

I want to know where the knights leave their armor, don't you?

Thank you, Katie!

  1. A noble escutcheon, if neon is accepted as a heraldric motif.

  2. Great 'twist' on your Camelot theme. Love the imagination.

  3. I like Katie's sense of humor and out of the box thinking... :-)

  4. Neon is absolutely accepted, JS, as are road signs, labels and finger paintings.

LOL, imagination is what Camelot is all about! (The contest, too.)

KBF, if you want to find Camelot where you are, out of the box is the way to go.

  5. I guess Camelot with neon is a bit of a stretch, but I thought of this bar right away. I saw a beautiful castle just outside Paris on Sunday, and the light was perfect, but I was on a bike and couldn't really stop to take a photo. Ah well.

  6. Oh, poor Katie! couldn't stop and take a photo of a castle outside of PARIS!

  7. No worries! If Katie is still in Paris on Sunday, she might get lucky and see Camelot AND Robin Hood together at the same place. All is not lost :).

  8. House of Shields is an amazing place. Stopped in here many years ago when it was quelle surprise! cold and wet in the city and I needed shelter and to warm up. Nice stiff drink hit the spot!

  9. This is great - fun entry!! Camelot most certainly needs a bar!

  10. Love this classic neon sign. And it looks grand inside (from the photos). An inspired entry, Katie!

  11. I don't know if Katie will see that, LOL, but it's something I'd love to see!

Don't ever let anybody tell you they didn't do any drinking in Camelot.

  12. Ooooh, I like it! Very clever. Tis a shame Katie is stuck in Paris or thereabouts and can't have a drink in House of Shields tonight. Yes, poor Katie!

  13. LOL thanks for the tip! If I get to the races Sunday I'll put my money on Camelot to win, as I'm sure Robin Hood and Ernest Hemingway will be discussing the best bar in Sherwood Forest and miss the start.

  14. Susan, at least we're stuck here in "the Paris of the Pacific."

Katie, if you do get to the races, send us a picture of Camelot! I've got a pic of him on my Pinterest but it's not the same.

  15. Egads and blast, I was signed on to one of my ghost blogs. Back again.

Great photo, Katie. Celestial, thunder-darting, true-penny.

  16. This is so 'Katie'! I love the neon and the mosaic floor inside is wonderful. I can imagine a rousing round of cocktails being enjoyed by all!

  17. Petrea, I so love following your blog. (Nice response, Katie. Good luck and I hope you can get that photograph too.) They have switched jockeys today so it is an each way bet for me. Anything to do with 'Camelot' is big news over here in England and now in France too. Fantastic!!!!

  18. Woops! Karin, I should have left that comment in, I deleted it. Didn't mean to take the meaning out of yours, sorry.

Shell, when you visit, we'll meet Katie for a round of cocktails at the House of Shields.

LOL, how sweet! This blog is a joy for me and I'm delighted to have you. And isn't it exciting that the horse racing sensation, right now in France and England, is Camelot!

  19. Petrea, when I know I'm coming, we'll set the date in stone.

  20. Ahhh...I wonder if they serve Camelot cocktails??? Perhaps a Lady Guinevere? Or a Sir Gawain??? Or perhaps an Excalibur???

  21. Just like a sword, Shell.

Chieftess, you're giving me ideas for the book launch party.

  22. I'll have a dry King Arthur please...

  23. You know, Chieftess, that opens up so many possibilities...

  24. Alas, the ground was too soft for Camelot to make it to the winning post first at the Arc yesterday. He is still magnificent horse and worthy of being called 'Camelot'.
